As a member of the AMA, your interests will be represented and protected in all discussions with Federal and State governments and their instrumentalities, other medical bodies and commercial organisations.

Industrial Advice

The AMA ACT provides valuable industrial advice to members. Our industrial officer ensures that members are well advised, either as employers or employees.

Practice Advice

Advice including incorporation, award rates for staff, locums, patients of a medical practice records, advertising and publicity etc., is readily available for members. Guidelines for contracts with practice principals available on request at no cost.

A copy of the “Recommended Schedule of Fees for Medico-Legal Work” a ‘handbook’ for doctor-lawyer communications prepared by the Branch and the ACT Law Society services is also provided by the AMA ACT. Members are reminded of their obligation to provide staff access to their award.

The Doctors’ Health Advisory Service

The Doctors’ Health Advisory Service exists to assist doctors and medical students, and their families, in need of support. It is independent of all other medical organistions and its services benefit both the profession and public. The DHAS aims to help to restore doctors to their full personal, professional and social capabilities. When this is not possible, alternatives have to be considered which will enable the practitioners to function in the community, while maintaining their dignity. The colleague of first contact is Dr Stan Doumani who has a panel of supportive general practitioners who provide assistance to colleagues. The Branch provides some support for DHAS as a community service to the profession.

Students

Medical students are our future. The Branch provides them with free associate membership and an invitation to attend general meetings.
